Back at SolidWorks World 2009, Darren Henry introduced SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress would be in the 2010 version of SolidWorks. Since then the product has had some nice updates and added a full suite of tools to evaluate Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) on assemblies with increased granularity.
Whether you are aggressively pursuing green products or just want to make greener decisions, Sustainabililty gives simple tools that can be used at the early stages to steer the design down a more sustainable path. Although the tools are simple to use, they are backed by a sophisticated database provided by PE International, a leader in LCA.
The 2012 version of SWSUS brings a few nice new customization features and can factor in other more granular facts about the design's manufacturing, transportation and end of life processes. I know cost is always on the forefront when it comes to design, but making smart environmental choices like material selection or manufacturing processes can make huge differences in the long run. ~Lou
